Mitsubishi Electric Power Products (MEPPI)
Mitsubishi Electric Power Products (MEPPI) called for a foundation expansion of an existing 115kV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS.). The expansion needed to include engineered foundations and equipment access platforms to support various types of gas-insulated equipment, including a formed-in-place cable trench system.
Commonwealth was chosen to engineer the GIS slab expansion, including an elevated steel access platform system with ladders, steps, and working surfaces in accordance with OSHA regulations.
Although MEPPI and Commonwealth have an excellent relationship, the project still had challenges. The main challenge centered around developing a management strategy. The project needed to accommodate the several parties and stakeholders involved as project engineering and procurement were to be split into multiple components to be performed by several different vendors. A secondary challenge was the level of precision and coordination required due to the compact nature of the installation.
The MEPPI GIS Platform Expansion project was uniquely challenging and genuinely an opportunity for Commonwealth to showcase our ingenuity, creativity, and engineering expertise.
